The Necessity of a Governing Body in Recreational Fishing.

In most of the countries there is a governing body which controls all the aspects of recreational fishing. The aim of such governing bodies is to promote recreational fishing and sustain fishing population and its habitat. The rules and regulations of recreational fishing are formulated by these governing bodies. These governing bodies assign the places for recreational fishing and the species that can be targeted in recreational fishing. Recreational fishing also makes a considerable contribution to the countries economy. The future of recreational fishing depends on the healthy population and sustenance of fish. So the governing bodies are necessary to implement the necessary laws to protect the fish population and also to manage the population in the best manner possible.

Shore Fishing.

Shore fishing is for those who loves fishing but cannot afford to go on a fishing expedition in a fishing boat for one or the other reason. Shore fishing, as the name suggest is resorted to from the shore or land near some lake or river. The first and foremost thing in shore fishing is knowing where and when to undertake fishing. You should have a fair idea about the species of fish in the river or lake where you plan to do shore fishing. This is essential to decide the type of bait that is to be used for fishing. Experience will help you to improve your fishing techniques to become successful in shore fishing. It is a recreational activity that will give you a refreshing experience.

Rock Fishing

Rock fishing is the method of fishing in which an angler resorts to angling from rocky surfaces in the sea. It is a very popular recreational activity in Australia and New Zealand. Rock fishing can be done by means of line and hook only or by using all fishing accessories of angling like rod, reel, line and hook. In rock fishing, anglers generally use fish baits in summer and autumn and umbrella rig in spring. Fish baits depend on the type of target species of catch. Umbrella rig is a method of trolling in which the target species is attracted to the bait by making an impression of an easy prey by making a bait lag behind from the numerous baits used in umbrella rig. Rock fishing may be considered as the most dangerous form of recreational fishing.

Ice Fishing.

Ice fishing is one of the different varieties of fishing in which line and hook method or spears are used to catch fish by making an opening in the frozen water or ice surface. This type of fishing is common in those countries which experience long and cold winters, so that the lakes and rivers get converted into frozen water bodies. There are two types of ice fishing, the first type in which the anglers sit on a stool in the open area of a frozen lake or river for fishing and the second type in which the anglers resort to fishing from a heated cabin which supports many amenities. Ice fishing is a popular pastime in many countries like Finland, Canada, Sweden etc.

Fishing Rod and Fishing Pole – Is there any difference between the two?

Fishing rod or fishing pole is an accessory used in angling, the method of catching fish by means of an angle or hook. Fishing rod or pole is the long and flexible rod or pole to which the fishing line with a hook dressed with bait is attached. There is a slight difference between fishing rod and pole. The fishing pole is simpler than the fishing rod. The term fishing pole is generally used for the stick or pole which is used to suspend the fishing line with a hook dressed with bait. It was made of bamboo in the past, but now it is usually made of fiberglass. Fishing rod is more sophisticated than the fishing pole. It is a mechanical casting device with fishing line guides and fishing reel. In the modern times, anglers usually prefer fishing rod to fishing pole due to the mechanical advantages of the former.

Fishing Reel.

Fishing reel is a tool used in angling, one of the oldest methods of fishing. Fishing reel is usually used in conjunction with fishing rod and line. Fishing reel is actually a sophisticated device which helps in deploying and retrieving the fishing line. It helps to control the movements of the bait hooked on the angle which is suspended from the fishing line, using the spool which is mounted on the axle. Chinese paintings and records of AD 1195 are supposed to be the earliest illustrations of fishing reels. Fishing reel is a bait casting device which is popular among anglers.

Fishing Line.

Fishing line is an accessory used in fishing in the method of fishing by hook and line, which is known as angling. Fishing line is a cord that is used for fishing. Fishing lines are selected on the basis of various parameters like length, weight and material of the cord. The more the lines become thicker and sturdier, the more it becomes visible to the fish and the lesser the chance of the fish nibbling on the bait which is suspended from the fishing line. So it is better to select thinner lines. Some of the other factors to be considered while selecting fishing lines are breaking strength, UV resistance, knot strength abrasion resistance, stretch, etc. of the cord.

Catch and Release.

Catch and Release is one of the methods of recreational fishing. This is usually a common practice among fly anglers. This method is based on the principle that no harm should be imparted to any animal unnecessarily. In Catch and Release fishing, the anglers resort to fishing for pleasure or sport. But they do not want to harm the fish. So the catch is released immediately into the water so that the fish can survive without any injuries. This also helps to preserve the aquatic wealth. In most countries, there is a size limit implemented by law which requires any angler to release certain species of fish below a particular size. This will help to preserve those species of fish which faces a threat of extinction.

Bass Fishing – A Popular Mode of Recreational Fishing.

Bass fishing is the sport of fishing in which only a particular species of fish, that is, the North American game fish is caught. The different varieties of Micropterus, a species from the family of the sun fish forms the category of game fish in North America. The sport got its name from the colloquial name of the fish, the black bass. The most common types of black bass species are the large mouth bass, small mouth bass, spotted bass etc. In bass fishing the catch and release method is usually adopted though it is an edible variety of fish. Almost all varieties of black bass are well known for their fighting ability when hooked by an angler. Bass fishing is usually resorted for recreational purpose.

Bait

In fishing terminology, bait is any article or substance used to attract the prey, that is, the fish. Bait is usually used to dress the hook in the fishing line. In the past, anglers used smaller fish, insects and night crawlers as baits. Now, both natural and artificial baits are used for fishing. Artificial baits are man made objects that attract fish with its movements, color and vibrations. Natural baits are natural objects which forms the prey for fish. Studies prove that natural baits are more welcome to the fish than artificial baits. Anglers choose baits mainly on the basis of the targeted species of fish and its habitat.

Recreational fishing

Recreational and sport fishing describe fishing for pleasure or competition.
Recreational fishing has conventions, rules, licensing restrictions and laws that limit the way in which fish may be caught; typically,
these prohibit the use of nets and the catching of fish with hooks not in the mouth.
The most common form of recreational fishing is done with a rod, reel, line, hooks and any one of a wide range of baits.
